Conference Proceedings

  • ITS America and IBTTA Joint Conference on Sustainable Transportation, Social Responsibility, Energy Conservation and Maintenance, Oct. 4-5, 2010, St. Louis - Link to presentations
    • ITS America partnered with IBTTA to bring together some of the foremost experts in sustainable transportation. This 3-day conference addressed where we are, what we still need to accomplish, and where we go from here. Agenda highlights included: Congressman (MO-3rd) Russ Carnahan; the “Four Legs” of Sustainable Transportation presented by John Charles, President & CEO, Cascade Policy Institute and his expert panel, including Allen Biehler, President of AASHTO and Michael Replogle, Global Policy Director of ITDP; Dennis Archer, Chairman, Dickinson Wright, PLLC, and Former Mayor of Detroit who discussed the role of the federal government in promoting sustainable transportation policies for metropolitan areas; views of the Federal Highway Administration and the U.S. DOT ITS Joint Program Office on operational strategies, policies and supporting ITS Technologies and their impacts on climate change; 21st Century Roadway Maintenance and more.
  • The Potential Impacts of Climate Change on Transportation: Workshop Summary and Proceedings (2002), U.S. Department of Transportation, Center for Climate Change - PDF
    • This research workshop focused on the issue of how future climate change might affect transportation and brought together top transportation and climate change experts to explore what is currently known about the interaction between climate change and transportation and identify key potential risks.
  • Workshop on the Impacts of Global Climate Change on Hydraulics and Hydrology and Transportation (2005), Center for Transportation and the Environment, North Carolina State UniversityURL
    • This workshop focused on the impacts of global climate change on hydraulics and hydrology and transportation in order to develop guidelines for practitioners dealing with the consequences of climate change.

  • ITS America's Sustainability Forum - The Sustainability Forum collects and evaluates data to better understand the relationships between transportation systems, traveler behavior, and climate change; support research and the identification of existing and emerging technologies to address the relationship between transportation and climate change; and inform the public, policymakers and lawmakers about the capability of transportation technologies, operational strategies, funding mechanisms, and integrated traffic management systems to affect traveler behavior and/or reduce fuel consumption.
  • Climate Change: Activities of the Transportation Research Board – This Web site serves as a gateway to TRB activities and products addressing transportation and climate change.
  • State Climate Action Plans Database (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency)  This interactive map contains links to the Climate Change Action Plans for 21 states. By clicking on a specific state on the map, you can see the Climate Change Recommendations, broken down by 8 economic sectors - including Transportation. Also shown are the results of the implemented actions, shown as estimates of reductions in the state's greenhouse gas emissions.
  • State Action Maps (The PEW Center on Global Climate Change)  This site hosts links to State Action Maps, broken down into the Climate Action and Energy, Transportation, and Building Sectors. By clicking on a specific topic, you can see the policies, recommendations, actions, and project states are undertaking to address Climate Change.
  • The Role of Transportation Demand Management and Other Transportation Strategies in State Climate Action Plans (Association of Commuter Transportation Demand Management Review)  A growing number of states are drafting plans to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, and incorporating transportation strategies as a key element of these plans. This article looks at the basic process for drafting state climate action plans, and the role of transportation strategies—including Transportation Demand Management (TDM)—in these plans.
