Travel Time Prediction Using Grey Model
In Taiwan, freeway traffic is often congested during peak hour or during seasonal holiday periods. For deploying Advance Traveler Information System, to predict the travel time is essential. There are many various methods had been created to predict the travel time in the past. However, most of them are too complex. In this paper, a model using the Grey forecasting theory is adopted in views to its few data needed for getting prediction result within short term. The predicted result is good, especially for the travel time changed in short term. Furthermore, the improvement for overcoming the shortcomings by using simple Grey model is also conducted to reduce travel time fluctuation impact and then to enhance the prediction accuracy. The results implicate that these methods can do help to improve the prediction accuracy. A revised method of Grey travel time prediction model is then developed.

Study on the Application of GPS and GIS in the Vehicle Surv-Control and Navigation
After briefly stating the principle of GPS technology, the paper synthetically analyzes the research background of the surv-control and navigation of GPS vehicle management system. Also its latest research situation in China and abroad is introduced. The paper emphasizes the study on the unique surv-control and navigation of GPS vehicle management system which adapts to the China’s situation. Then the system’s design procedures are expounded and the
software’s frame and function of every section are set up. The software tool—MapInfo which can combine map with text information perfectly and its notable characteristics of the table GIS are detailedly introduced. In the end, prospect of GPS and GIS applications in the surv-control and navigation of vehicle is looked into future. Based on analyzing and comparing the characteristic of three system program development software, MapBasic, VB, VC++ and comprehensive consideration VC++ is selected as the system development software.

Dynamic Ridesharing For Livable Communities
There have been many attempts to implement dynamic ridesharing projects over the
past 15 years, most with very limited success. The Avego Project at University
College Cork (UCC), in Ireland, provides greater potential by leveraging the advent
of location intelligent consumer mobile phones to provide a marketplace for drivers to
offer their empty seats to riders in real time. By pricing seats based on mileage,
drivers are incentivized to carpool, and passengers are provided an affordable
transportation option. Based on preliminary results from UCC, as well as evidence
from past dynamic ridesharing projects, this paper presents 5 critical success factors
for the successful design and implementation of a community-based dynamic
ridesharing project.

Application Of Systems Engineering To A Major Integrated Corridor Mobility Project
This paper describes the application of systems engineering (SE) to a major innovative
transportation project in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Interstate 80 (I-80) Integrated
Corridor Mobility (ICM) Project. In addition to being one of the first applications of Active
Traffic Management (ATM) to a freeway corridor in the U.S.A., it is also one of the first
detailed applications of formal SE processes to a major highway traffic management project
in the U.S.A.

UK ITS Best Practices
The United Kingdom has deployed innovative strategies as part of their ITS program. These
strategies include active traffic management, congestion pricing, multimodal traveler information
web sites, integrated demand management, etc. The purpose of this paper is to review the best
practices and lessons learned from their experiences for possible application in the United States.
