ITS America Expands External Affairs and Technical Programs Teams

Washington, D.C. (March 4, 2014) – The Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) today announced that Jennifer Carter and Callie Hoyt have joined the organization, bringing proven technical expertise and strong public relations and advocacy skills to the nation's largest nonprofit association representing the transportation technology community.

"As technology brings greater levels of safety, efficiency and connectivity to our nation's transportation network, it is critical that transportation and technology leaders work closely with U.S. DOT and Congress to continue advancing key research and technology initiatives, and to communicate the benefits and challenges of these innovations to policymakers and the public," said ITS America President and CEO Scott Belcher. "I am thrilled to announce two phenomenal new additions in Jennifer and Callie who will ensure that we continue to advance and effectively advocate for innovative technology solutions to America's infrastructure challenges."

Jennifer Carter joined the association as Director of Technical Programs and is the primary program manager for ITS America's research and technology collaboration with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). Carter joins ITS America from SAIC where she supported the U.S. DOT's ITS Joint Program Office and the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) Office of Operations for the past 11 years. As a Transportation Engineer and Deputy Program Manager, she performed studies of dozens of ITS applications deployed across the country ranging from technologies that support traffic flow through work zones, to incident management and pedestrian safety. Carter also spent five years supporting U.S. DOT exclusively on program assessment and performance evaluation of transportation systems including studies on safety, public transit, parking, real-time traveler information, commercial vehicle operations and more.

"Jennifer's experience managing key transportation research and technology programs will be critical as ITS America continues working with U.S. DOT and the transportation community to address key challenges in the deployment of existing technologies, as well as the development of next generation innovations," said Belcher.

Callie Hoyt joined ITS America as Manager of External Affairs where she is supporting the association's communications, marketing, and legislative development and outreach activities. Hoyt previously served as Manager of Government Affairs for the Alliance for Driver Safety and Security (the "Trucking Alliance"), a Washington, D.C.-based coalition of influential freight transportation and logistics firms. While at the Trucking Alliance she coordinated stakeholder coalition building, and developed and implemented public relations efforts and federal advocacy strategies to advance policy initiatives to improve highway safety and productivity within the trucking industry. Before joining the Trucking Alliance, Hoyt was the safety and policy coordinator at the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) where she handled the association's legislative and regulatory issues portfolio and increased the profile of TCA polices through implementing advocacy and communications efforts. She previously interned for U.S. Congresswoman Cynthia Lummis (WY) and Congressman John Mica (FL/7).

Belcher continued, "Callie has a proven track record of developing and executing strategic public affairs campaigns for trade associations. Her background in transportation policy and advocacy, and Capitol Hill experience will be invaluable to our members. She is a great addition to our growing and talented team."
