It is a long-standing tradition at ITS America to recognize the most innovative minds in our industry with our annual Best of ITS awards. Every year, we scour the country for the latest and greatest in transportation, and this year is no different.
Today, our search begins. We are now accepting nominations for ITS America’s Best of ITS Awards. If you know of an individual or organization that is doing outstanding, groundbreaking work in transportation technology, we want to hear about them. Submit your nominations today.
Your nominations could join a community of Best of ITS award winners that have changed the face of modern transportation. Past award winners are long-standing champions of technology in transportation from across the country. Last year, we recognized the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Transurban and Fluor with a Best New Innovative Product, Service or Application Award for their work on the 495 Express Lanes. This project demonstrated the value of the public and private sector working together to ensure innovation and sustainability in the financing, design, delivery and operation of a nearly $2 billion transportation infrastructure project.
The County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works received honors in the Best New Innovative Practice category for the deployment of a Multijurisdictional Wireless Communication System. The key component of the program involved the deployment of Traffic Signal Control Systems (TCS) primarily using a Wireless Ethernet Broadband Radio Communications System (WCS). In addition, closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras were installed to enable direct viewing of the operation of the intersection in real time. With Los Angeles County as both the leader and facilitator, this project sought to get as many signalized intersections throughout the County as possible connected and communicating to a TCS.
This year, we are introducing a new category in the Best of ITS Awards: Best New Innovative Startup Company. Traditionally, we have awarded organizations for Best New Innovative Product, Service, or Application, and for Best New Innovative Practice in the areas of rural ITS, sustainability in transportation, marketing and outreach, partnership deployment (business-to-business, government-to-government, or public/private), or research and innovation.
With the addition of this new category, we are able to recognize rising stars for their cutting-edge additions to the transportation industry. For more details and specifications on our Best of ITS awards, please view our guidelines.
Submit your nominations by March 12, 2014 for a chance to be honored at the 2014 ITS World Congress, September 7-11 in Detroit, Michigan. The selected award winners will be highlighted at the ITS America Plenary session, to be held September 9.
