ITS America Leadership Circle
In October, ITS America released its second Leadership Circle Forum Report, “Creative Disruption: Exploring Innovation in Transportation,” a summary of the discussions and results from the groups Forum in Berkeley, California held August 13-15, 2013.
The report discusses insights and key takeaways from the Forum, which included sessions on Creative Destruction, Disruptive Technologies, Urban Mobility, Industry Trends, Big Data Challenges, Connected Vehicles and Infrastructure, and Emerging Freight Network Needs. Using these sessions as a foundation, the Leadership Circle will focus on Connected Vehicles, Data Collection and the National Freight System in 2014. Download the full report: “Creative Disruption: Exploring Innovation in Transportation.”
At the final Board Meeting of 2013, the Board of Directors voted to adopt changes to the ITS America bylaws, providing clear guidance on the governance of the Leadership Circle, and its relationship to other bodies within the organization. Advocacy and Outreach
The External Affairs teams met regularly with Congressional offices in 2013 to educate them about the ITS industry and our MAP-21 reauthorization priorities. We served as a resource for both committee and personal staff in preparation for the hearings related to the ITS industry, briefing committee staffers and working with several of the witnesses in advance to prepare remarks. Additionally, we continue to meet with key Congressional offices, the FCC and U.S. DOT regarding the 5.9 GHz spectrum issue, working with our coalition supporters.
ITS America worked consistently in 2013 to amplify the advancements in transportation technologies that our members are developing and deploying around the world. Through our many platforms and tools for raising awareness—editorials and blogs, the Transportation Technology Newsletter, press releases, podcasts, videos, our Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn channels, and Smart Solution Spotlight Awards--we expanded our members’ reach and elevated their ITS initiatives by sharing their stories with key industry leaders and influencers, government representatives, investors, the media, and the general public.
Research, Reports and Projects
Technology Scan Reports and Assessments
Under sponsorship and guidance from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office (ITS-JPO), ITS America published a new report as a part of the Technology Scan series in 2013 titled Connected Vehicle Insights: Trends in Roadway Domain Active Sensing.
The report analyzes the merits and limits of active sensing technologies – such as radar, LIDAR, and ultrasonic detectors – and how the market for these technologies is evolving and being applied to vehicles and highway infrastructure to improve traffic safety and prevent crashes. ITS Market Research
In January, ITS America released a report* detailing U.S. revenue estimates of eight ITS service packages, as defined by the National ITS Architecture and an analysis of the opportunities and challenges currently facing the ITS industry. The report, entitled “The U.S. Intelligent Transportation Systems Market: Revenues of Service, Opportunities and Challenges,” offered a detailed breakdown of the granular market data that has been desired by the ITS professional community.
In January 2014, ITS America and Governing will release a new report on State DOT ITS Trends. This report will provide intelligent transportation data, trends, state and local spending projections for the next 18-36 months. Stay tuned for more!
