WASHINGTON, DC, January 22, 2008 - The workshop summary from
the New England Workshop on Using Regional ITS Architectures held
September 25-26, 2007 in Boston, MA is now available online. This
workshop was presented by ITS America's Research, Integration,
Training and Education (RITE) Forum and sponsored by the U.S.
Department of Transportation.
The purpose of the workshop was to train attendees on how to
better utilize the Regional (and Statewide) ITS Architectures that
have been developed over the past several years. All workshop
attendees received an ITS Architecture Use and Maintenance Tool Kit
which included the workshop tutorial presentations, CDs on System
Engineering and Regional ITS Architecture Guidance as well as key
examples from various state activities. Speakers included MaryBeth
Mello, Federal Transit Administration Deputy Administrator, Region
1 and Stephen Pepin, Manager of Research, Massachusetts Executive
Office of Transportation to name a few.
The primary objectives of the workshop was to convey
state-of-the-practice and to share experiences and lessons learned
from agencies that have used their regional ITS architectures in
regional transportation planning.
Each theme area included a tutorial by U.S. DOT covering the
state of the practice, presentations covering specific experiences
of practitioners, and break-out groups that focused on individual
experiences and challenges associated with using the regional or
statewide ITS architectures. The concluding session of the workshop
was a discussion of specific resources (training, guidebooks, etc.)
available from the Federal Highway Administration and Federal
Transit Administration.
