Intelligent Transportation Society of America Announces New Directors
WASHINGTON, DC, May 22, 2008 - The Intelligent Transportation
Society of America (ITS America) announced the election of Patrick
McGowan and Peter Sweatman to its Board of Directors at the general
meeting of board members today in Washington, DC. Also new to the
board are David St. Amant and Sheryl Wilkerson. St. Amant and
Wilkerson will complete the unexpired terms previously held by
former Board of Directors Chairman Michael Doyle and Dave Acton who
have both stepped down from the board.
"We are very pleased to welcome these distinguished industry
leaders to our board of directors," said Scott F. Belcher,
President and CEO of ITS America. "They each bring to the board
their unique and strong experience which will complement the
board's leadership in continuing to guide ITS America's future
growth strategy, thought leadership, and member value
creation."
Michael Doyle, CEO, Econolite Group Inc. stepped down as
chairman after a one-year term. "Mike's leadership has truly made a
difference to ITS America in strengthening the relationship between
the association and its members and continuing to involve past
board members of the association through the Past Board Chair's
Circle," Belcher said. "I look forward to continuing our
partnership."
Belcher also expressed his gratitude to outgoing board member
Dave Acton, Ygomi LLC, for his excellent work on behalf of ITS
America and in particular his contribution to the Vehicle
Infrastructure Integration initiative.
New Director Biographies:
David St. Amant is a 28-year veteran of the
electronic components distribution industry, currently holds the
position of President and COO of the Econolite Group, Inc.,
headquartered in Anaheim, California. Econolite Group is the
umbrella company of Econolite Control Products, Inc. and five other
subsidiaries within the transportation industry. Prior to joining
Econolite Group, Mr. St. Amant spent 14 years serving in senior and
executive level sales and marketing positions with Avnet Inc., the
world's largest distributor of electronic components. He started as
a customer service representative, advancing his career through
positions in sales, branch and region management. He was named Vice
President of Marketing for Time Electronics, an Avnet company in
1990. He held the position of Vice President, Director of Supplier
Business Management for Avnet/Cilicon, the company's $1.8 Billion
semi-conductor division. Mr. St. Amant served as Chair of the
National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) Transportation
sector in 2004 through 2005. He currently serves as Chair of the
Business Leadership Council of the Intelligent Transportation
Society of America, and has been an active member on the Board of
Directors and Finance Committee for the Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation, Orange County Chapter.
Patrick McGowan is the Vice President of the
Mid-Atlantic Region for Telvent Farradyne, a North American leader
in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and a member of the
Telvent corporate family. Mr. McGowan brings over two decades of
experience in all aspects of Intelligent Transportation Systems
(ITS). He has been the project manager of several noteworthy ITS
deployments such as the $151 million TransGuide system for the
Texas Department of Transportation, which included planning,
design, integration, deployment, operations and maintenance. At
Telvent Farradyne, he has complete responsibility for all aspects
of the company's project performance, client satisfaction, business
development, and financial performance in the mid-Atlantic
region. He has a strong industry presence, serving on several
committees at the Intelligent Transportation Society of
America-including the Coordinating Council and Organizing Committee
for the 15th World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems-and
the Federal Highway Administration and Transportation Research
Board. Mr. McGowan earned his bachelor of sciences degree in civil
engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.
Peter Sweatman, PhD is the Director of the
University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI).
He came to UMTRI after a long career in transportation research and
development in his native Australia, and with extensive
international connections. Dr. Sweatman is an acknowledged
international leader in the scientific field of heavy commercial
vehicle interaction with the infrastructure and built a successful
freight technology innovation business. He has a strong interest in
advanced safety systems which help drivers to avoid crashes, and in
communication technology which will not only prevent crashes, but
also improve traffic flow. He earned a bachelor's degree in
mechanical engineering and a Ph.D. in vehicle dynamics from the
University of Melbourne.
Sheryl J. Wilkerson is Senior Vice President,
Strategic Planning and Corporate Services, Ygomi LLC, an
international holding and operating company for technology
services, headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois. In this position,
she oversees the corporate marketing, external affairs, strategy,
and quality services for Ygomi and its businesses. Wilkerson has
more than 20 years of legal, telecommunications, government, and
business experience. Prior to joining Ygomi, she served as Legal
Advisor to former Federal Communications Commission Chairman
Michael K. Powell on technology, wireless and international
issues. She came to the FCC from ArrayComm, Inc., an adaptive
antenna technology company based in San Jose, CA where she was Vice
President of Legislative Affairs. Before joining ArrayComm, Inc.
she served as Director of the FCC's Office of Legislative and
Intergovernmental Affairs and Special Counsel to the General
Counsel. Previously, Wilkerson served as Staff Counsel to the
Senate Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Communications where
she worked on major telecommunications reform legislation. She also
served as Legislative Assistant to the Chairman of the House Energy
and Commerce Subcommittee on Telecommunications. She has been
affiliated with several law and government relations firms in
Washington, DC. She obtained a BA with honors in Telecommunications
and Afro-American Studies from Indiana University in Bloomington,
Indiana and a JD from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. She
has served on non-profit and corporate boards and in leadership
positions with the Federal Communications Bar Association, Wireless
Communications Association; and the Intelligent Transportation
Society of America.
