ITS America Welcomes Nine New Members
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Intelligent
Transportation Society of America (ITS America) has welcomed nine
new companies and organizations from around the country since June
1. ITS America is the nation's leading advocate for the use of
smart technology to address transportation challenges. Our new
members include: Carr and Duff; Cogenia Partners; the City of
Gainesville; High Sierra Electronics, Inc.; Jacobs Engineering; the
City of Pharr; Tennessee Department of Transportation; Texas
Southern University; and the University of Florida.

Jacobs
Engineering is a leader in transportation, aviation, and water
infrastructure projects including highway, bridge, transit,
tunnel/underground, airport, railroad, intermodal facility, ports,
telecommunications, water and wastewater treatment and conveyance
as well as solid waste cleanup. Jacobs Engineering provides program
advisory services related to tolling and public-private
partnerships that result in improving mobility within a region's
existing infrastructure with limited traditional transportation
funding. The company also designs and builds innovative automotive
test facility systems and operates, maintains, and manages them for
a wide range of clients.
Headquartered in Nashville, the Tennessee Department of
Transportation (TDOT) provides citizens of Tennessee and
travelers with one of the best transportation systems in the
country. TDOT has consistently won awards for its innovative
approach to transportation. TDOT is a multimodal agency with
responsibilities in aviation, public transit, waterways and
railroads and has approximately 4,200 employees in four statewide
region facilities.
Texas
Southern University's Innovative Transportation Research
Institute (ITRI) was developed in the fall of 2006 and has already
achieved extensive accomplishments. With its advanced technologies,
large scale computer simulation methods, complex modeling systems,
and state-of-the-art lab equipment, ITRI develops, evaluates,
optimizes, and recommends comprehensive strategies for traffic
congestion mitigation, urban transportation planning, ITS
development, mobile source emission reduction, and fuel consumption
saving.
The City of
Pharr, located in South Texas, is the hub of transportation for
the region and a major gateway for NAFTA-oriented businesses. The
city's Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge serves as one of the most
important ports of entry for the U.S.-Mexico border, producing over
$890,000 in revenue from commercial vehicle and passenger operated
vehicle crossings for the month of June.
The City
of Gainesville serves as the cultural, educational and
commercial center for the North Central Florida Region. The City
provides a full range of municipal services, owns a regional
transit system, and is home to Florida's largest and oldest
university.
Cogenia
Partners is a professional consulting firm specializing in
systems and services for connected automobiles and mobile devices.
The company was founded in October 2001 and is headquartered in Los
Altos, California. Cogenia Partners' clients include automotive
manufacturers, suppliers and service providers, as well as emerging
startup companies, venture capital firms and individuals looking to
invest in the connected automobile industry.
High Sierra Electronics,
Inc. designs and manufactures quality hydrological monitoring
systems and meteorological instruments to improve public safety and
to protect the environment. The company has over seventeen years
experience developing, integrating and supporting remote monitoring
systems around the world. Some of High Sierra Electronics' projects
include real-time flood warning, flooded roadway warning systems,
water resource management, met data collection, satellite and radio
communication, road surface monitoring, and road weather
information systems.
Carr and
Duff is a multifaceted electrical construction company
headquartered in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania with satellite
offices in Philadelphia and Jackson, New Jersey. Carr and Duff
specializes in a wide range of intelligent transportation
technologies, including transit signals, transit systems, highway
construction, lighting systems, intelligent traffic systems, and
civil construction.
The University of
Florida's Transportation Research Center (TRC) was established
to provide a central point through which transportation research
could be performed and reported. TRC researchers have been leaders
in the transportation field through active participation in various
national and international organizations and investigators
associated with the TRC have performed sponsored research exceeding
$25 million in the past five years.
