Airbiquity and Nissan North America, Inc. Honored with Smart Solution Spotlight Award for Electric Vehicle Telematics Technologies

The Nissan LEAF Electric Vehicle CARWINGS Telematics Program global launch

a key milestone for Airbiquity and the telematics industry

Nashville, Tenn. (April 23, 2013) – The Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) today recognized Nissan North America, Inc. for the company’s global launch of the Nissan LEAF Electric Vehicle (EV) CARWINGS Telematics Program and Airbiquity, Inc. for the global launch of its Choreo Service Delivery Platform for its Cloud-Based EV Solution designed for the Nissan LEAF. Both companies were presented with a Smart Solution Spotlight Award during ITS America’s 23rd Annual Meeting and Exposition in Nashville, Tennessee.

“ITS America is proud to honor both Nissan and Airbiquity for their innovative leadership in connected vehicle solutions for the Electric Vehicle services market,” said President and CEO of ITS America Scott Belcher.  “The evolution of a modern transportation network increasingly depends on the use of information and communications technologies to enhance safety and mobility on our roads, support a sustainable environment, and keep commuters and our economy moving.”

ITS America’s Smart Solution Spotlight award honors companies and organizations for using Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to create a safer, cleaner, more efficient and sustainable transportation system.

Kamyar Moinzadeh, president and CEO of Airbiquity and Lisa Farrar, senior manager of Marketing, supporting Nissan’s Electric Vehicle portfolio, were presented with the ITS America Smart Solution Spotlight award in recognition of their partnership to develop and utilize “smart” telematics technologies to make it easier for drivers to manage and use a green vehicle – which is essential for market success.

“We are proud of the success of our partners at Nissan North America, Inc. and congratulate the company on its Smart Solution Spotlight Award from the ITS America,” said Kamyar Moinzadeh, President and CEO, Airbiquity. “As one of the first global EV programs launched in ten countries and six languages, the Nissan LEAF program was a key milestone for the telematics industry. We are very proud to see our comprehensive EV solution recognized as we strive to help automakers and consumers receive the maximum benefit from their alternative-fueled vehicles through our connected vehicle solutions.”

Designed to keep owners and drivers connected to their cars, Airbiquity’s Choreo Service Platform for Electric Vehicle (EV) solutions integrates seamlessly with an automaker’s back office systems, offering a scalable and flexible platform. It provides the infrastructure for Nissan’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for the Nissan LEAF. With the ICT system, Nissan LEAF owners are connected at all times to the data and information they need to optimize their EV experience.

Nissan LEAF owners and drivers can track battery charging and use, activate remote services and locate charging stations, among other essential EV activities. The system can be accessed in the vehicle, by a dedicated website for Nissan LEAF owners, via mobile phones, and smartphones, to manage energy usage. The LEAF CARWINGS Program has a social-networking feature that scores the eco-friendliness of every driver, so LEAF owners can see their regional and worldwide ranking. Additionally, Airbiquity’s connected system can be constantly tailored and new features can be introduced to improve the functionality.
