New Report Showcases Smart Parking Innovations and Examines How Industry is Modernizing to Meet Consumer Demand

Jersey City, NJ- The Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) presented the results from their new report titled Smart Parking and the Connected Consumer - Opportunities for Facility Operators at the Smart Parking Symposium in Jersey City, New Jersey.

The pioneering report analyzed both the opportunities and challenges faced by parking facility operators and technology providers when implementing smart parking systems.  The report also examined progressive municipalities and commercial entities that have been in the forefront of understanding how investments in smart parking technology and customer service can meet both the needs of the driving public and improve the operators’ bottom-line.  Lastly, the report estimated how pent-up consumer demand for more information on parking alternatives and related services may drive smart parking forward.

After nearly a century as part of the American urban landscape, will the coin operated parking meter become an artifact of the past? Will it disappear like as did the telephone booth?   ITS America’s Report Smart Parking and the Connected Consumer - Opportunities for Facility Operators and Municipalities suggests that we are still a time away from the saying our final goodbye to the parking meter.  The Report argues however, that municipalities and other parking operators are moving quickly to making parking more convenient and less frustrating for drivers through implementation of electronic payment services and even turn-by turn navigation to online reserved parking.
