Kapsch to Release E-ZPass Technology

Releasing Kapsch TDM Specification to Aid in the Advancement towards National Electronic Toll Interoperability

Vienna/McLean, VA, October 24, Kapsch TrafficCom IVHS Inc., a subsidiary of Kapsch TrafficCom AG, announced plans to publish its Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) specification used in equipment supplied by Kapsch to the E-ZPass Group and other customers throughout North America.
Providing developers and companies open and free access to the Kapsch TDM specification is the latest E-ZPass Group and Kapsch contribution to support national electronic toll interoperability and industry compliance with Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21). Kapsch and the E-ZPass Group expect to post the TDM specification on their websites, early in the first quarter of 2013.

"Open, non-proprietary technology benefits everyone and accelerates the adoption of the solutions these technologies enable. By opening the Kapsch TDM specification, Kapsch will enable developers and companies to provide agencies and concessionaires with optimized toll transactions based upon industry leading technology that currently provides greater than 99.9% accuracy for the E-ZPass Group," said Chris Murray, President and CEO, Kapsch TrafficCom IVHS Inc. "We are committed to accelerating the efforts of nationwide toll interoperability and providing all customers a choice of technology to ensure revenue assurance and business process optimization."

"We applaud the efforts of the Kapsch team in supporting the 24 member agencies of the E-ZPass Group with our interoperability strategy," said PJ Wilkins, Executive Director, E-ZPass Group. "The E-ZPass Group has and will continue to support the objective of nationwide interoperability and this specification is one important building block towards that goal."

The Kapsch TDM specification is the most widely used electronic toll collection protocol in North America with over 23 million active users, and is the de facto standard for the E-ZPass Group.

The E-ZPass Group operates the largest, most successful toll interoperability network in the world, with more than 23 million toll transponders in use and collects over $8 billion in annual toll revenues of which more than $5.6 billion is collected electronically and over $2.6 billion transferred between agencies through our toll reciprocity programs. The mission of the E-ZPass Group is to enable E-ZPass members and affiliated toll operators to provide the public with a seamless, accurate, interoperable electronic method of paying tolls and fees while preserving and enhancing the E-ZPass program.
