ITS Congestion Challenge Finalist Spotlight: Grand Cooperative Driving Challenge
BRUSSELS, Oct. 26 - The rand Cooperative Driving Challenge
(GCDC) was named a finalist in global ITS Congestion Challenge, www.itsa.org/challenge. The
Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America), IBM,
Spencer Trask Collaborative Innovations (STCI), and partners
announced the results on September 24 in Stockholm, Sweden during
the 16th World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems. The ITS
Congestion Challenge was a global competition to find the best
ideas for reducing traffic congestion.
The Grand Cooperative Driving Challenge, a demonstration of
how cooperative driving systems, which provide vehicle-to-vehicle
and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication, can reduce the
incidence of traffic jams, minimize O2 emissions and prevent
accidents on the road. These systems offer drivers and road
authorities more information about vehicles, their location,
their intention and the road conditions.
The GCDC's entry came from a field of 116 companies from 20
