Delcan Awarded a One-year Contract Amendment with the University of Illinois-Chicago by the Illinois Department of Transportation to Support the Gateway Traveler Information System (TIS)
CHICAGO, Dec. 7 - Intelligent Transportation Society of
America member Delcan, a
multi-disciplinary engineering, management, and technology
consulting firm, has been awarded a one-year contract by the
Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) through the University
of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) to support the Gateway Traveler
Information System (TIS).
The Gateway TIS is an intelligent transportation system (ITS)
that collects transportation-related data for the
Gary-Chicago-Milwaukee (GCM) Corridor from geographically dispersed
systems, validates the data collected, and disseminates it both to
the general public on the GCM Travel website ( www.gcmtravel.com) and to public and
private partners. The GCM Corridor contains 2,500 miles of roadway
connecting the three cities, and spans 16 counties in Illinois,
Indiana, and Wisconsin. The information that the Gateway TIS
provides to travelers includes data on traffic congestion and
incidents, travel times, planned events that may affect traffic
operations, and road construction.
Delcan will be furnishing system enhancements for the Gateway
TIS, as well as providing continuous maintenance support. The
enhancements will include traveler information website usability
improvements, performance improvements, and upgrades to the system
software to further integrate new data sources and provide
configuration changes as existing sources are updated. Delcan has
previously integrated data from four of the firm's Advanced
Transportation Management Systems (ATMSs) into the Gateway TIS.
Round-the-clock maintenance support is included based on an
automated performance-monitoring system and call-out. Delcan
provides decision support, relative to all system enhancements and
response to user feedback.
Lester Yoshida, Delcan's President of Systems Business
National Operations, remarked, "Illinois is a leader in
implementing advanced technologies to provide travelers with
valuable up-to-date information. Delcan is pleased to assist with
this implementation and to continue our long-term relationship with
IDOT."
Delcan, founded in 1953 and operating globally, serves a
multi-disciplinary client base by focusing on meeting client needs
