Cambridge Systematics Awarded FHWA Planning Research and Technical Support Contract

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Jan. 11 - Intelligent Transportation Society of America member Cambridge Systematics, Inc. has been awarded a new five-year Planning Research and Technical Support Contract to continue supporting the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The new contract has a potential value of $10 million to Cambridge Systematics and our team of subcontractors. This contract is the fifth successive planning support service award to Cambridge Systematics by the FHWA.
Cambridge Systematics provides the FHWA a team with demonstrated success supporting the Agency in the past, coupled with the talent and versatility to mobilize quickly to deal with emerging issues and new needs. We have assembled a group of this country's leading national experts that have proven their ability both to enhance current methods and to develop and implement innovative new approaches successfully.
Addressing Critical Transportation Issues
Over the past decade through the Planning Research and Technical Support IDIQ contract, Cambridge Systematics successfully has supported the FHWA in addressing some of the most critical transportation planning issues facing the nation. Projects have been undertaken involving financing, geographic information systems (GIS), freight, the development of improved travel demand forecasting methodologies, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), land use, and the interrelationships between transportation investment and economic development.
Attention under this new contract will be given to emerging new areas in which national leadership by the FHWA will be beneficial to its state and local planning partners. Current areas of attention include congestion, freight, safety, security, border planning, economic development, as well as improved planning analysis methods, streamlining the planning process, and capacity building. The objective is to work with the FHWA, in cooperation with the Agency's state, regional, local, and private partners, to strengthen the role of planning in achieving an effective intermodal transportation system for both passengers and freight.
Bringing Our National Expertise to State and Local Practitioners and Back Again
Transportation leaders such as the FHWA turn to Cambridge Systematics for strategic planning, policy analysis, and management advice. We are known for our ability to develop innovative and sound solutions to address complex transportation issues, present and future. Through our work with state and local transportation agencies, we are able to feed the policy making process at the Federal level with real-world experience. In this way, we have influenced the development of effective transportation policies and helped design and implement effective management solutions throughout the United States and around the world.
Similarly, we leverage our deep understanding of national policies, planning tools, and programs - derived from our heritage of work in the Federal arena - to help state and regional agencies develop innovative and effective financing strategies, long-range transportation plans, asset management approaches, and operational improvements.
