Delcan Wins the 2009 International Road Federation's Global Road Achievement Award for Traffic Management & ITS

VANCOUVER, Jan. 19 - Intelligent Transportation Society of America member Delcan was awarded the Global Road Achievement Award for Traffic Management & ITS, by the International Road Federation (IRF). This prestigious award was presented in recognition of Delcan's development and implementation of TransLink's iMove™ system.
The IRF developed the Global Road Achievement Awards program as a way to honor and recognize road-industry projects that demonstrate excellence and innovation in road development worldwide. The program is designed to provide a "road map" for others to follow in an attempt to continuously improve and advance road development in countries located all over the world.
Delcan designed and deployed the iMove™ system for the South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority ("Translink") as a one-stop transportation portal to provide multi-modal, multi-jurisdiction, and static as well as real-time traveler information to the public with the use of the internet. The iMove™ website enables the public to quickly access information on a host of transportation information, including transit and cycling routes, construction, event information, current incidents, airline arrivals, border crossing wait times, as well as ferry loadings times.
Visitors to the site will also have access to 125 webcams that can be used to view current road conditions on major regional corridors. The web portal was built using the latest web technologies, ITS standards, and geographical services, to give travelers an easy-to-understand view of current conditions that may affect their travel experience.
"In Canada, the design of the iMove™ web portal is really quite unique, particularly in how it obtains data and information through a combination of direct interfaces and links", says Keenan Kitasaka, Manager, Intelligent Transportation Systems of TransLink. The strength of iMove™ is in the integrated approach to collecting and disseminating the information for its different users as well as the institutional support that it receives. Different agencies such as municipalities and the Provincial Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure now provide information to iMove™ through an interface to a module called "Regional Condition Reporting System (RCRS)". As a proven application, the iMove™ web portal is now being considered by other cities in Canada.
Bob Paddon, Vice President, Corporate and Public Affairs of Translink remarked, "The development and implementation of iMove™ as a one-stop source of multi-modal traveler information, was a big step for the region. Previously, users had to hopscotch to various agency sites to get end-to-end information about their trips. The ITS Board agencies led by TransLink worked over several years to develop and launch the web portal that brought everything together into one location. TransLink played a key role as the regional transportation authority and leader of the ITS coalition of agencies to jointly fund and participate in the project. We are proud of the product whose role continues to evolve as the region grows."
Upon this recognition, Richard Chylinski, a Senior Principal of Delcan and Project Manager for the iMove™ Project, commented, "Delcan is honored to be selected for this prestigious award. We believe that the iMove™ system is a solid example of the quality solutions that Delcan offers and we are pleased that industry experts recognize our technical excellence."
"We commend the South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority ("TransLink") on their vision for iMove™ and their commitment to providing local residents with a world class transportation network," says Joe Lam, President of Systems Business, Canada & International Operations of Delcan. "We appreciate being involved in the development of this important transportation management tool for Metro Vancouver. This is a fine example of numerous successful partnerships between Translink and Delcan."
