ROCKVILLE, MD, Jan. 26 - Intelligent Transportation Society of America member Telvent (NASDAQ: TLVT), the IT company for a sustainable and secure world, announced today that it will install its Telvent SmartMobilityTM Tunnel solution on El Morro Alto Tunnels, which are part of DNIT´s ambitious plan to improve tunnel infrastructures all over Brazilian Roads. The contract is valued at almost 14.5 million euros.

This project is the first step to accomplish one of the highest priorities of DNIT, which looks forward to enhance safety and security on their road and rail transportation critical infrastructures. Thanks to Telvent SmartMobilityTM Tunnel solution, DNIT operators in charge of operation and maintenance of both tunnels, will be aware at all times of what is happening inside the tunnel, and can diagnose and control traffic in real time and be prepared to respond quickly and appropriately to any emergency situation. This technological deployment will lead to a substantial improvement in incident response times and more efficient management of maintenance plans, which, in turn, will lead to a decrease in accident rates and an increase in users' safety.

Telvent will install Telvent SmartMobilityTM Tunnel, based on its own supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) technology, which will operators allow to centralize both tunnel infrastructure and traffic management, giving operators a comprehensive set of tools that will facilitate management, increasing security at the same time. Specifically, the following systems will be implemented and integrated on the control center: emergency signaling system, closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance, emergency intercom, variable message systems, lighting, ventilation, communications network, etc.

This contract allows Telvent to strengthen its position in the Brazilian market, as technological leader in intelligent transportation systems. The Company has completed successfully numerous projects in Brazil, such as several highway management projects, ticketing systems and the urban traffic control (UTC) development and maintenance in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Belo Horizonte.
