Serco Awarded $50 Million Department of Transportation Contract
RESTON, VA, Jan.28 - Intelligent Transportation Society of
America member Serco Inc., a
provider of professional, technology, and management services,
announced today that the company has been awarded a contract with
the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) to provide
comprehensive management, installation, and maintenance of the
department's intelligent transportation system. Serco will be
responsible for maintaining over 2,500 Intelligent Transportation
devices that assist traveling motorists and Emergency Responders
throughout the Atlanta Metropolitan market. This new contract has
an expected value of $50 million over five years.
Under the contract, Serco will manage the camera systems,
video and presence detection systems, ramp metering systems,
changeable message signs & structures, and the maintenance of
hub buildings which house and protect the backbone devices of the
entire system. The intelligent transportation system is used to
provide motorist assistance, traveler information, enhance safety,
mitigate congestion, and reduce carbon emissions.
"This is an innovative performance management contract and the
first to be issued by GDOT's Operations department. We look forward
to deploying this innovative contracting model with Serco," said

In addition to this new work, Serco currently supports GDOT's
NaviGAtor Traffic Management Center (TMC) operations with program
management, technology, and staffing. Serco is also managing the
privatization effort for the Georgia 511 system that provides
real-time traffic and travel information, enhanced concierge
services, and allows motorists to request assistance.
