ITS America Members Reappointed as Chair and Vice Chair of Federal Advisory Committee

ITS America Members Dr. Joseph M. Sussman and Robert Denaro Reappointed as Chair and Vice Chair of U.S. DOT's Intelligent Transportation Systems Advisory Committee

Secretary LaHood Also Re-Names ITS America Board Chair Ann Flemer, President Scott Belcher, Other Members to Federal Advisory Committee

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood has reappointed ITS America members Dr. Joseph M. Sussman and Robert Denaro as Chair and Vice Chair of the the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Advisory Committee. LaHood alo re-named ITS America Board Chair Ann Flemer, President and CEO Scott Belcher, and other ITS America members to serve on the Congressionally-mandated Federal Advisory Committee.

Dr. Joseph M. Sussman is the JR East Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he has served as a faculty member for over 40 years. Robert Denaro is the Vice President of NAVTEQ, a world leader in premium-quality digital map data and content.

Thirteen of the 20 members named to the Advisory Committee by DOT Secretary Ray LaHood are members of ITS America, including several current and past ITS America Board members.

The ITS Advisory Committee is charged with reviewing areas of ITS research being considered for funding by the Department and advising the Secretary on ITS aspects of the Department's strategic plan, according to U.S. DOT. The ITS Research program is overseen by the Department's Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA).

The United States is facing serious traffic safety, congestion and environmental challenges, and it is critical that we continue to advance the development and deployment of ITS technologies that are vital for improving the performance of our multimodal transportation system."
