Alaska Launches New Generation 511
First Deployment of LogicTree/Open Roads Traveler Information
Platform
June 2, 2010 - Bowie, MD - The State of Alaska has
successfully launched their New Generation 511, based on an
innovative new platform provided by LogicTree and Open Roads. The
new system includes a 511 IVR with enhanced features, a revamped
and expanded http://511.alaska.gov website, and a new map-centric
condition reporting system for managing incidents, planned events,
and weather conditions.
Jeffery Ottesen, Director, Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities said, "We have waited a long time for a contractor that really listens and goes the extra mile to meet our needs. Alaska's New Generation 511 was built as a cost-effective, off-the-shelf 511 solution designed to meet the needs of State DOTs by offering the flexibility and scalability of a custom system at price every state can afford. It will allow Alaska DOT to expand and add new traveler services without requiring system redesign or consensus from multiple states.
"We have many unique travel conditions in Alaska," states Jill Sullivan, AKDOT&PF 511 Project Manager. "Weather, for example, is a critical safety issue. We rely on the new 511 system to accurately and efficiently provide National Weather Service forecasts and road-weather conditions. We look to grow the system to include more tools and information useful to travelers in Alaska."
The New Generation 511 allows callers to access information in ways familiar to Alaskans, referencing major road segments by name between cities and landmarks. It also allows Alaska DOT operators to more efficiently post events to the system through an interactive map interface and floodgate management tool.
