SCRTTC Announces Newly Elected Board Members
LOS ANGELES, CA - The Southern California Transit Training
Consortium (SCRTTC) conducted its Annual Board of
Directors meeting May 19, 2010 which was hosted at Orange County
Transportation Authority's (OCTA) new Santa Ana, CA facility. A
resolution was submitted by the Organizational Committee to
increase the SCRTTC Board to twelve (12) members.
With that resolution approved by the SCRTTC Board, nominations were
put forth for two (2) new members; Mike Bonacio of San Bernardino's
Omnitrans and Tommy Edwards of SunLine Transit Agency in Thousand
Palms, CA; both Omnitrans and SunLine Transit Agency are founding
members of the SCRTTC.
Bonacio, with Omnitrans for over 20 years, started as an Equipment
Mechanic, promoted to Shift Supervisor prior to his present
position as Omnitrans' Technical Services Manager. In his current
position he serves as: Training Manager, Project Manager for
maintenance projects, and composes the scope of work for RFPS for
bus and equipment purchases just to name a few. "I am looking
forward to being part of the continuation of the organization in
these tough times, and assist in carrying Jim Ditch's legacy into
the future," Bonacio commented after accepting the SCRTTC Board's
nomination and election.
Edwards, SunLine Transit Agency's Director of Maintenance, came to
SunLine 19 years ago as a Mechanic and then Maintenance Shop
Supervisor, and began his teaching career as the Maintenance
Trainer. He continued his education by gaining certification on CNG
Vehicle Maintenance, and CNG Compressor Training on Knox/Western,
Sulzer, and Fuelmaker. Another title held was Special Projects
Supervisor. Mr. Edwards has served as Director of Maintenance for
the last 7 years. His areas of responsibility includes vehicle
maintenance and as such, encompasses maintenance and repair of over
135 alternate fueled revenue and support vehicles, including CNG,
and hydrogen equipment. Edwards has played a key role in SunLine's
goal 'To continue the advancement of innovative transportation and
alternative fuel technologies.' Fulfilling this goal also has
enabled SunLine to achieve its mission, 'To provide safe and
environmentally conscious public transportation services and
alternative fuel solutions to meet the mobility needs of the
Coachella Valley.'
The consortium has delivered over 20,000 hours of training to more
than 1500 transit employees that maintain vehicles every day. For
