Booz Allen is excited to announce key additions to their Intelligent Transportation Systems practice. Booz Allen has a long history of success in the ITS space and has bolstered their ITS expertise with the hiring of Joe Averkamp, Jim Misener, and Dr. Emily Parkany.
Joe Averkamp is an industry veteran in the telematics, intelligent transportation systems, and location based services space. Averkamp joins Booz Allen from ACS, and previously worked at Ford, Sprint, and Motorola. During his tenure at Sprint, Averkamp was responsible for developing and launching automotive wireless systems as well as phone-based GPS and location-based services. While at Motorola, Averkamp was a key member of the team that developed and supported the launch of OnStar services using Motorola products. During his time at Ford, Averkamp served in a variety of roles associated with launching wireless and GPS-based solutions for in-vehicle use including the world's first wireless and GPS-based system, RESCU (Remote Emergency Satellite Cellular Unit). Averkamp has previously served on the ITS America Board of Directors and the US DOT ITS Advisory Committee.
Prior to joining Booz Allen, Jim Misener was Executive Director of the California Partners for Advanced Transit and Highways (PATH) at UC Berkeley. In that role, Misener led a multi-disciplinary research, technical and administrative staff in obtaining and delivering internationally-renowned applied Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) projects. For six years, Misener served as the Transportation Safety Research Program Leader at PATH and had responsibility for managing nearly thirty applied research projects at PATH involving traffic safety during his tenure.
Before joining Booz Allen, Dr. Emily Parkany worked for Noblis where she supported the US Department of Transportation Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) efforts in Professional Capacity Building/ITS Learning and Vehicle to Infrastructure Integration (VII). Prior to that, Dr. Parkany was an assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at first the University of Massachusetts and then Villanova University. Dr. Parkany has worked for 20 years in transportation in a variety of roles including consultant, graduate researcher, assistant professor, and non-profit government contractor. She has authored several journal articles, research reports, and is a frequent presenter at ITS conferences. She holds a Professional Engineering (P.E.) License from Pennsylvania and she is a certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE).
