PBS&J Awarded FDOT Statewide ITS General Consultant
Contract
$15M contract to support Florida's ITS
program.
Tallahassee, FL - The Florida Department of Transportation
(FDOT) has reselected PBS&J, an Atkins company, as its
intelligent transportation systems (ITS) general consultant (GC)
for a third, five-year term. As a result, the company will provide
a wide range of engineering and planning services for the
Department's ITS Program through February of 2016.
"Our team is honored to have been reselected by FDOT to
advance ITS solutions for Florida's travelling public," said David
Chang, PE, PTOE, PMP, who is PBS&J's program manager for the
ITS GC contract. "As an ITS innovator, FDOT has embraced technology
to improve the safety, mobility, and environmental sustainability
of the state's transportation network, which aligns well with
PBS&J's goal of improving life in the communities that we
serve."
ITS is the application of computer, electronics, and
communication technologies as well as management strategies, in an
integrated manner, to improve the safety and efficiency of surface
transportation systems.
As FDOT's current ITS GC, PBS&J has already supported all
facets of Florida's nationally recognized ITS program including
Florida's advanced traveler information system, the SunGuide®
traffic management center software used statewide, specification
and testing of ITS products approved for use in Florida, and
evaluation of device vendors' quality assurance programs. PBS&J
will support the ITS Program with emerging initiatives including
IntelliDrive sm and transportation systems management
and operations (TSM&O).
Chang commented, "We consider ourselves fortunate to be
working with FDOT in this field. To its credit, FDOT saw the value
of ITS early on-and they continue to examine emerging technologies
and operational practices that will shape the future of
transportation in our state."
