BOSTON, MA, January 4, 2011
- Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international
communications and information technology company, has been
selected as the radio system and service provider for the Oregon
Wireless Interoperability Network (OWIN) program. The state of
Oregon awarded Harris a 10-year Price Agreement Requirements
Contract. The contract vehicle will be used by Oregon state and
local agencies to purchase public safety communication systems,
radios and other equipment, and is expected to have a total value
of more than $100 million.
OWIN follows a mandate from the Oregon State Legislature
to consolidate the radio networks currently operated independently
by the Oregon Department of Transportation, State Police, Forestry
Department and Oregon Department of Corrections. A statewide
"network of systems" will be created for mission-critical,
interoperable, public safety communications. Local firefighters,
police officers and emergency medical responders will be able to
use the enhanced system in addition to their own radio
systems.
"Harris was awarded the OWIN project following a
thorough and detailed evaluation by the State of Oregon. We are
honored to be under contract for this mission-critical statewide
system," said Steve Marschilok, president, Harris Public Safety and
Professional Communications. "We look forward to working with
Oregon to successfully deploy OWIN, a next-generation system that
will serve the state's first responders for decades to
come."
The Harris OWIN Radio System project implementation team
includes Oregon State University, Silke Communications, Dataradio,
Legacy Wireless Services, Event Rental Communications, Complete
Wireless Solutions, Pacific Electronics, Ledcor Technical Services
(LTS) and SIS-Q Communications. Additionally Harris will form a
business incubator enterprise relationship with The Confederated
Tribes of Grand Ronde.
