2012 Student Essay Competition
The Student Essay Competition is designed to encourage student interest and future participation in the development of Intelligent Transportation Systems and solutions, provide an opportunity for today’s transportation and engineering students to apply their knowledge in a thought-provoking and hopefully enjoyable competition, and build awareness of ITS as a career path with unlimited potential.
ITS Hall of Fame
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
Recipients of ITS America’s ITS Hall of Fame Award personify achievement of the ultimate standard for a leader in the ITS field:
- outstanding leader in the organizations he or she has led,
- thought leader in the ITS field, and
- champion of vision of ITS and its fulfillment within and beyond the ITS community.
The recipients of the 2012 ITS Hall of Fame Awards are selected based on their standard of leadership in the transportation technology arena. Each person has served an outstanding, lifelong career dedicated to organizational leadership in the field and thought leadership contributing to the vision of intelligent transportation systems. All have been tireless advocates for fulfilling ITS’ promise.

ITS Congestion Challenge
The first global ITS Congestion Challenge, announced in June 2009, was open to entrepreneurs, commuters, transportation experts, researchers in all fields, universities, and citizens around the world. Three winners and six finalists from Hungary, Ireland, Canada, the Netherlands, and the United States, were selected by an open global community of more than 4,000 people, including transportation industry professionals and the general public.
1st PLACE
iCarpool provides commuters and other travelers with comprehensive travel choices for modes of travel other than driving alone. Read more.
2nd PLACE
FuelClinic, for their "Eco-System" and "Eco-Driver On Board" programs, which provide tools and certified eco-driving training to improve, track, and manage driver performance for increased fuel efficiency, increased driver safety, and reduced accident rates. Read more.
3rd PLACE
iCone Products, LLC, for an ITS concept to beam real-time traffic information over the Internet to a central web site for use by government officials, emergency response personnel, trucking fleets, the public and information resellers, including media outlets and GPS services. Read more.

Avego Ltd., for development efforts on a "dynamic ride sharing" offering that uses wireless network technology to match drivers and riders, thereby filling empty car seats, unlocking excess capacity, and reducing congested roads. Read more.
BroadBit Inc., for a solution for enhancing traffic flows by eliminating unnecessary lane changes and allowing travel on hard shoulder surfaces during peak hours. Read more.
Grand Cooperative Driving Challenge, a demonstration of how cooperative driving systems can reduce the incidence of traffic jams, minimize CO2 emissions and prevent accidents on the road. Read more.
Intellione Technologies Corp., for a solution that turns mobile handsets into potential traffic probes that can deliver data to solve traffic congestion. Read more.
Precyse Technologies Inc., for a wireless-based system that uses RFID tags to locate, identify, monitor and communicate with cars on the road. Read more.
