Security System of Port of Houston

The Port of Houston, a major economic development driver for the Houston area and beyond, is ranked second in the US in total tonnage. The Port uses the region’s existing ITS infrastructure (fiber network and radio systems) in a unique setting to provide transportation security for industries that rely on this major U.S. port. The tour will visit the Port’s incident management facility which provides regional security and prevents loss of life during major events.
Harris County Toll Road Authority
Wednesday, May 5, 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Visit a region-wide communications system that shares information between two transportation centers to promote mobility within the Harris County toll road system. Also, witness a demonstration of an innovative electronic wrong-way vehicle detection system that, since its inception in 2009, has been employed to save lives in actual situations.

Enjoy a bus tour of the largest barrier-separated High Occupancy Vehicle system in the world – METRO’s original rail-less guide system which provides more than 139,000 people trips a day, enhancing sustainability, mobility and the quality of life for the region’s riders.
METRO Rail Operations Center and Light Rail Maintenance Facility
Wednesday, May 5, 2:00 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Experience METRO’s rail operations center, where maintenance is performed on rail cars that carry more people per car than anywhere in the nation, providing a transportation alternative and promoting mobility and quality of life.
