ITS America and Partners Urge Congress to Protect 5.9 GHz Band for Safety

An ITS America-led coalition of transportation, technology and public safety organizations urged Congress to drop provisions from draft spectrum legislation that would auction off or allow unlicensed use of the 5.9 GHz band which has been allocated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for advanced vehicle and highway safety applications (and which serves as the platform for the Connected Vehicle network).  In a letter to House Communications and Technology Subcommittee Chairman Greg Walden and Ranking Member Anna Eshoo, the coalition stressed that “33,000 annual traffic fatalities should not be an acceptable cost of doing business in America when technologies are available to prevent them.”
